The Suite
Entrance & Foyer
The entrance to the Suite is through a hand-planed door with iron-forged details. It opens onto a wide-plank floor entryway, original beamed ceilings & staircase from 1727. A French coatrack discovered at Paris’ famed antique market, le Marché aux Puces de St-Ouen, invites you to hang your garments in style, and a pair of slippers helps ease your transition from the outside world to your little oasis. A framed antique map of Westport graces the stairwell wall abutting the massive central chimney.
Hallway
At the top of the staircase, there is a small hallway connecting the Salon to the Bedroom & its adjoining bathroom. Special features of this transitional area include the hand-blown overhead lights, carved etchings of sailboats made on the wooden walls by children who lived in the house a century or two ago, and an attic door which is regarded as one of the first examples of decorative ironwork in the county. This hallway, with its bright, expansive view, provides a passageway between the salon & living room & a printer/scanner/copier. Additionally, there are two ceiling to floor built-in cabinets with plenty of space for office supplies, clothes & other personal items.
Salon
Living Room Area
To the left of the hallway is a door which leads to a spacious, airy & sunny Salon, which is composed of a living room area, complete with the highest quality oversized comfy chairs, an ottoman, a thick shag rug and a new 55-inch 4K flat-screen smart TV. Entertainment options include Netflix, Sling, Hulu, Amazon & Peacock. To enhance your experience, we have installed a soundbar, speaker & a set of wireless headphones. In keeping with our interest in preserving the historic nature of the residence while offering modern-day conveniences & luxuries, the mammoth TV is set atop an antique pine washstand. Below is a small drawer to keep remote controls handy. Between the chairs is an overturned antique crate with marble coasters, behind which stands a lamp - providing a nice warm glow while separating the living room area from the Kitchenette.
Kitchenette
Compact, but mighty - the Kitchenette features new, high-end appliances such as a mid-size refrigerator/freezer, powerful microwave, a stainless steel kettle for tea aficionados, (complete with oolong, green tea and black tea temperature settings), and a brand new multi-stream Keurig coffee maker. To welcome you, we provide some compostable/recyclable Starbucks, Peet's coffee pods, La Colombe coffee & international tea offerings. Eco-friendly to-go coffee cups with lids, glassware, a tea pot, mugs, cutlery, chopsticks, plates and bowls are within reach - displayed on the shelves of an antique built-in desk, which provides a small kitchen counter space. Salt, pepper, sweeteners, a cutting board/knife & two serving trays complete the set-up. On the practical side, there are two additional small closets in the Salon - including one with cleaning supplies.
Dining Nook
This space holds a French pine table with small drawer to keep napkins, two Danish wooden chairs and bouquet of silk flowers selected to match the limited-edition print framed alongside. It is a sweet area that can serve as the perfect place to mindfully eat a light bite, or multi-task since the 55-inch TV swivels to face the dining area.
Bedroom
Sleeping Haven
The bedroom has been designed to be a plush, cosy and luxurious nest. From the stately queen-sized brass bed outfitted with a grey linen bedskirt, brand-new pillow-top mattress & luxurious sheets, to a plush cloud of a comforter wrapped in a velvet duvet, this sleeping haven comes with extra silk & velvet cushions. The bed is anchored on both sides with extra-large bedside tables that possess a top-level for a lamp, remote-controlled candles & glasses. The leather with gold-leaf impressions lie under a sheet of glass. There is also a lower-tier to the table for books, a laptop and other gear. Getting a good night’s sleep is enhanced with black-out velvet curtains which can be tied with tassel valences when you want to let the sunshine in from your three bedroom windows. On the practical side, there is a full closet for hanging clothes, an ironing board & iron as well as two overhead shelves with additional blankets and pillows.
Dedicated Work Space
A generously-sized sturdy pine desk with white-washed base is set against the stone wall of the chimney, providing a solid foundation & stately view from which to sit down and attend to work matters, or journal writing. The desk comes with a bright task light, a large Belkin surge protector/charging station, as well as a 22" inch monitor & HDMI connector to boost your productivity without straining your eyes. Silk flowers & remote-controlled flickering wax candles sit on the desk, providing a soothing ambience to combat work stress & remind ....
Bathroom
This soothing step-down bathroom oasis is directly accessible through the bedroom. which includes plush towels, a cozy bath robe & slippers to enjoy during your stay. Another set of remote-controlled flickering wax candles align the tub to provide a spa-like ambience as you soak and enjoy the view. Please note, at this time we offer a bathtub with hand-held shower wand rather than a standing shower.
The Yard
You will have use of a portion of the yard, close to what we call, 'the farm" (4 raised beds harvesting organic vegetables). Your private space comes with outdoor furniture, shade & privacy for you to enjoy. Pictures to come!
The Neighborhood
The Kings Highway North Historic district is a well-preserved jewel of a neighborhood that is located within walking distance of Westport’s Main Street, the Saugatuck River and all the restaurants, shops and amenities that downtown has to offer. This includes the Levitt Pavilion, the Westport Public Library and River Walk, the Farmer’s Market as well as The Remarkable Theater, with whom we feel a special bond given their appreciation of the Remarkable Bookshop and interest in revitalizing the Westport downtown of yester-year. Enjoy downtown, parks on the Saugatuck River & Earthplace a 62-acre wildlife sanctuary, nature discovery and environmental learning center just down our street.
